About the Blog

“Out of the Park: Blogging about Sports Public Relations” is a brutally honest look at the ins and outs of sports public relations.

With sports becoming such a huge (multi-billion dollar) industry in terms of money and attention, the ante has been raised with each passing year to maintain good public relations.

And with more money, comes more problems, especially with player behavior. From the Ron Artest brawl with NBA fans to the current steroid controversy permeating baseball surrounding the Mitchell Report, there are more cases than ever of the impact of public relations in sports. Especially with at least five twenty-four hour sports networks in the United States alone and hundreds of sports Web sites, the sports media is more scrutinizing than ever.

The goal of this blog, besides whetting my need to be heard about anything and everything, is to promote intelligent, thoughtful discussion about the decisions sports organizations make regarding anything from player conduct to crisis management.

So I encourage anyone and everyone to comment on my blog. However, I reserve the right to approve or refuse any post before it goes up, be it for brevity, grammar, content or vulgarity.

I may also request that you edit it for any one of these reasons before it goes up. But like I said, I love input and well-reasoned arguments. So unless you really abuse this feature, I will most likely allow your post through, especially if I can dispute it.

In summary, this blog will help the reader make sense of the madness that is the sports world and in the process, allow for some great discussion. Enjoy!
